THE REAL LiNsta THEME :-)

GTK2 theme for those who like Vista-ish themes.

CONSTRUCTIVE COMMENTS are welcome ;-)

This theme is totally original : it is based on Murrina engine (last version) and pixbuf engine for panels, menubars, and toolbars.

Panels, menubars and toolbars come from my first LiNsta version (http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/LiNsta+%28LiNsta+is+Not+Vista+%3B-%29?content=42697) with many bug corrections and enhancements.

Everybody can customize its own version for panels, menubars and toolbars. There are some examples in the gtkrc file.

To install this theme, simply drag and drop the file in the theme pref window (in the preferences menu). It should install itself in the right place (under your .themes folder).

Best Emerald themes : all those having Vista-ish look.

ABOUT SCREENSHOTS :
-System : Ubuntu 6.06 (I'm waiting for the next LTS version) with Beryl 0.3.0 git for Dapper;
-Wallpaper : Innoculated Vision from djosiris in deviantART (http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/53328754/?qo=3&q=by%3Adjosiris&qh=sort%3Atime+-in%3Ascraps);
-Desklets : adesklets I developped to have a good Vista-ish look. These adesklets are in alpha version for now. I will publish them soon.
-Icons theme : Icons are based on themes I found on deviantART for Window$ XP. I don't think I can publish them (probably not free).

Hi there, great work. I am working on a theme utilizing the murrine engine at the moment, and am wondering what coding I need to include in the gtkrc file to make the gnome panel clock appear on 2 lines like your theme? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

I was mystified why, with only this theme, it was taking a minute or two to open up emerald-theme-manager. After some investigation, I discovered some strange errors being listed in my .xsessions-errors file(/home/arthur/) every time I exited emerald-theme-manager. There were tens of this type of error:

(emerald-theme-manager:6448): Gtk-WARNING **: gtk_widget_size_allocate(): attempt to allocate widget with width -1 and height 3

... each error had a different set of widths and heights, but at least one value in the error was a MINUS number.

I searched the gtkrc file, for the theme, for minus values, and found that there were no minus values, but that in the "# toolbar stuff" section, the .png names you had assigned were all "name-1" thru "name-4", and that the .png numbers are being interpreted as minus values. I believe that this problem could be solved by renaming the .png's - For example, you could rename "toolbar-blue-light-2" to "toolbar-blue-light2".

I can live with this problem, but I thought that you might want to correct this in your next update.

By the way, THIS IS A SUPERB THEME.

I installed the theme. Impressive! But the panels were not transparent. How do you make them be transparent? Also, the logout dialog box uses the background image of panels. Obviously it is wrong, Is it a bug of logout dialog box or a bug of your theme?

For the record, this is one I don't have with Murrine 0.52. The logout dialog box works fine here.

Apart the firefox "bug" (drop down lists text and background have the same color), if I create a new file/folder on Desktop I have the same problem while renaming.
I've feisty and murrine 0.52

I didn't test my theme with a more recent version of Gnome (I'm on Gnome 2.14). Perhaps, it's that raison. I don't know. With Gnome 2.14, all is fine.

I did some investigating and I found that the firefox dropdowns use the same values as the menu "class GtkMenu".

The new file/folder on the desktop is caused by the entry:

base[NORMAL] = "#353535"

in the "theme-desktop-icon" style

I remember I had this kind of problems. I don't know how it occurs. I think it's Murrina engine, but really I'm not sure. I don't have this problem on my Ubuntu Dapper box, with Murrina engine 0.53.
Can you try using Murrina 0.53 ? and tel me if it's bad.

This theme is incredible! I personally think Microsoft tried too hard to make Vista look all glassy and modern, but you do it perfectly! You have no idea how much I admire your skill, keep up the great work!

Its a very good looking theme. But I don't know, why my buttons and scrollbars are like the Gnome-Standard-Theme. And it seems, that the window-borders (i don't know the right english word for that) are not in ur theme. How's that theme called? Or am i wrong?

Reporting a Bug: in Firefox by selecting a text-input its all black (background and font).

Did you install murrina and pixbuf engines ? You need them to apply this theme.

About the window borders, you won't find them in Murrina-LiNsta because Murrina-LiNsta is a GTK2 theme, not Emerald nor Compiz nor Metacity theme.

To have the same look, you have to install Beryl and Emerald, and to go in the Beryl section of this site and find a "vista-ish" theme, like "VistaBlack", "Vista-Linux", or "True-Vista Experience" or an other one.

If you don't want (or if you can't) install Beryl/Emerald, or Compiz, you can use the Gnome default windows manager aka Metacity. I posted some "vista-ish" themes in a LiNsta Pack (http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/LiNsta+%28LiNsta+is+Not+Vista+%3B-%29+Pack?content=41090).

About Firefox bug, Firefox needs a specific theme because it is partially incompatible with Gnome ones.

But the Firefox-Problem is not firefox. When I rename a file on the desktop, it occurs black on black, too.

I can confirm this one too, using Murrine 0.52 again. When renaming desktop icons, everything turns black when positioning the cursor within the box. The same thing happens in Firefox when double-clicking within an input box brings up a drop-down menu of recent entries. Otherwise, everything else seems to work fine in Firefox.

After further inspection, I can confirm that it does this in a few different places in Firefox. The most obvious one is the location drop-down box. This makes Firefox unusable, so I hope it can be fixed with my userChrome settings.
